BIO

Known to her nearest and dearest as Dre, Andrea (she/her) is a queer first-gen Colombian-American actor, poet, educator, and community organizer based in Brooklyn. She is bilingual in Spanish and English, and speaks advanced conversant French. She co-founded The Parlor, an interdiciplinary reading series with fellow Flatbush creative Emily Roese. They host their seasonal events at the beloved Brooklyn ARTery on Cortleyou. Andrea often has her nose in a book & is a plant momma, collager, and mezcal negroni drinker. She’s a big lover of adrienne maree brown and Zadie Smith - and a big hater of pickles.

PLAYING PRETEND: Andrea recently starred as the lead in the world-premiere of Change Agent by Craig Lucas at Arena Stage. She has made a career in developing new work with incredible artists such as Lila Neugebauer, Anne Washburn, Dave Malloy, Saheem Ali, Les Waters, Stephen Brackett, Estefanía Fadul, Michael Arden, Eliana Pipes, Ryan Dobrin, Chloe Treat, and others. She has worked Off-Broadway at Soho Rep, NYTW, Signature Theater, EST, The New Group, Primary Stages, Fault Line Theatre, Playwrights Realm, IRT, and INTAR. Regionally, she has made artistic homes across the country at the The Paper Mill Playhouse, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, the Hangar Theatre, and Actors Theatre of Louisville. On TV, Andrea can be seen guest starring as Marisol Lugo on FBI (CBS) and as Barbara Danton in Stephen King’s Lisey’s Story (Apple TV+) with Julianne Moore and executive produced by J.J. Abrams. She is a former UNIT 52 member at INTAR, Associate Artist with Fault Line Theatre, and proud member of The Commissary, a grassroots theater collective currently in residence with The Vineyard Theatre.

WRITING  / OTHER FUN STUFF: She is a recipient of the Leonard A. Slade Jr. Poetry Fellowship with the MVICW (Martha’s Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing), and was published in the anthology Protest Through Poetry. Her visual artwork is featured as the album cover for the wonderful Plain Austen’s Spotify EP, This Time with Strings. Check it out. <<<

TEACHING: Andrea holds a BFA in Drama and minors in French and Applied Theatre Education from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. She is a resident teaching artist with Arts Ignite (formerly ASTEP), Exploring the Arts, Classic Stage Company, and Classical Theatre of Harlem. As an educator, she prides herself on developing rigorous, challenging syllabi for her students whilst providing them with a soft place to land; she leads with empathy, curiosity and a great sense of play. She believes in intentional, holistic approaches to education that center the child, their backgrounds, and their imaginations. When teaching the classics, she challenges Western male-centric ideologies of what constitutes a “classic,” providing classical plays such as House of Desires by the prescient, queer Mexican nun, Sor Juana Inéz de la Cruz’ in conversation with plays from Shakespeare & Moliere’s cannon.

Andrea also offers private Spanish language coaching for young people and adults (please direct inquiries to personal email provided on resume.) Similarly, with her tutoring clients — Andrea provides individualized support based on each students’ goals, crafting meticulous lesson plans and homework to ensure success, sustainability, and make learning Spanish…fun! She is part of the rockstar team at Greer Meister Group where she specializes in Early Learning (certified in Orton-Gillingham), Executive Functioning Support, and Spanish-language tutoring through a strength-based approach.
